I have been a member of the Hennepin Healthcare Medical Staff since 2003.  During that time, I have held several clinical, academic, and administrative positions, including Director of the Hospital Medicine Division, Interim Chief of the Department of Medicine, and the Vice President of Medical Affairs.

I teach at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and I am currently the Governor of the Minnesota Chapter of the American College of Physicians (the nation’s largest specialty physician organization).

From 2009-2021, I was the host of “Healthy Matters” which was a live radio broadcast and now am the host of a health podcast called “Healthy Matters with Dr. David Hilden.”

I am board-certified in Internal Medicine and am most proud of my roles as an academic internal medicine physician, both in the hospital and the Internal Medicine clinic.

I am an internist, lawyer, and mediator with particular interest and skill in both teaching about, and directly mediating, conflict among health care professionals. In practice, this work is done through my role as our hospital’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Officer. I also do work in the areas of provider wellness and leadership development and coaching. Both locally and nationally, I enjoy helping everyone from front-line clinicians to healthcare executive leaders and administrators learn how to successfully evaluate and address conflict while navigating challenging issues and working to move forward. My internal medicine practice is vibrant and rewarding and done through our hospital-based clinic where I both care for a panel of patients and teach resident physicians.
