Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Hennepin Healthcare is a 9-bed state of the art facility. Our multi-disciplinary team provides expert care to infants, children, and adolescents who are critically ill or injured. Our expert care team includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers and chaplains. We also have dedicated pediatric speech, physical, and occupational therapists on staff, and provide trauma psychology services when needed.

As Minnesota’s original Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, we are able to offer expert care with outstanding outcomes to our pediatric trauma patients. Our pediatric brain injury patients benefit from our unique, comprehensive Pediatric Brain Injury Program.

We make every attempt to provide stability and calm in what can be a difficult time. Our thoughtfully designed private patient rooms include a sleeping surface for caregivers. We are able to provide a limited number of separate family sleeping rooms for out of town families, or those needing a place to gather to support their loved one. With generous support from Central Roofing, we also provide a weekly evening meal for families of hospitalized pediatric patients, to provide comfort and support during their stay.
